Wow, what a Super Bowl game! I picked the Patriots to win the game but by halftime I was regretting my decision. (This was going to coast me 3 donuts and my pride!) But something amazing happened. Tom Brady and the Patriots kept pushing forward despite their present circumstances. No team in Super Bowl history had ever come from that far behind to win.

Sunday morning we showed a great video where the theme was “overcome.” The three stories in that video showed how these people had overcome their present circumstances by trusting in God and pushing forward. (During that last story I heard a lot of sniffles in the auditorium.)

The Christian life is not an easy life. It is filled with challenges and setbacks. Sometimes we get knocked down, sometimes we fumble and sometimes Satan comes along and “steals the ball” and we wonder if we will ever recover.

Well, the only way to win, when you get knocked down, is to get up and try again. You see once you decide not to get up, not to try again you’ve lost and Satan has won. Satan tells you to stay down, give up on praying regularly, give up on trying to tithe, give up on witnessing, give up on regularly reading the Bible. He knows if you give up He’s won.

The Patriots could have stayed in that locker room and decided not to come out after halftime. They could have talked themselves into believing that they are just too far behind to come back, but they didn’t. After the halftime show they came out to win.

How about you? Have you been knocked down by the enemy and decided not to try any more? If so, then you’ve lost and Satan has won. But you are not a quitter! You need to get up, get back into the game and decide that you are going to be an overcomer.

“I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who gives me the strength. (Philippians 4:13)

P.S. Looking forward to a donut this Sunday from a Falcon’s fan. 🙂
